Blog: June 2017

Time really does fly and it is now almost the end of June.  I have spent the last six weeks working on progressing Football Club Empire and I am very happy with how it is expanding.  I have updated the look, personalised 160 English League clubs, with each club having players, which in turn all have their own stats, oh, and you can now create your own club as well! It really has come quite a way!! Of course it is still not even a game really, just a shell.  But the shell is forming nicely and I think this is going to be great!  How long it will take to finish I have no idea, I can only work on it part time and I definitely am not going to rush it, so it’ll be done when it’s done! One thing I have thought about though is how to distribute the game.  I am making it a HTML5 version primarily, with a focus on mobile device play.  The problem I have is it is very difficult to monetise HTML5 games and therefore, to have an end goal to my months of work, I think I am going to release it on Android and IOS.  Then if it does well, do an ultimate version for PC.  I am getting ahead of myself somewhat, I still have to actually create the game and make it worth playing, but it’s good to have these thoughts now as it helps shape how it is developed.  This will mean any later transition to different platforms won’t be as painful! Aside from this, I have also been playing with a Raspberry Pi, which I predictably turned into a retro console and shoved a bunch of games on there.  It is awesome!  To play the games I bought as a kid again is phenomenal; so many good memories.  It was also very easy to do, which is really all down to the community at RetroPie. They are fantastic, so if you’re into retro gaming and technology, definitely go give them a look. Finally, I have also been rekindling my love of board games this month.  A friend and I went to Draughts in London and had an awesome afternoon playing some board games. Thoroughly recommend if you’re ever in London with friends! So for the next few weeks I will be working on progressing Football Club Empire.  If you want to keep up to date on progress, follow me on Twitter @IndieDevBateman.
