Blog: January 2017

What a month! I’ve prototyped two new games and also competed in my first game jam - GMC Jam 3. I’ve made some significant changes to the website as I move my gaming business very much towards HTML5 development.  In this blog I talk about learning to code for HTML5 and the differences to making games for Windows/Mac OS X.

Blog: November 2016

So I’ve been off the grid for a couple of months. Very sadly I had a death in the family and this resulted in coding taking a back seat for a while. I’m starting to get back into it and today I finished the last of my first tutorial series. Interestingly since I’ve been gone, GameMaker Studio 2 has been announced and is out in beta. I’ve had a play and there’s a fair bit of new stuff to get used to.

Blog: August 2016

My first game is out!  Square Pegs Round Holes is released after four months of development.  It’s great to finally get something out there and finish a whole game, rather than dip my toes into many different projects.  Learning to make video games is a twisty journey that sees you dabble in lots of different ideas as you get your head around different concepts.

Blog: July 2016

We are into July and in theory, my first game Square Pegs Round Holes will be finished at the end of the month.  The game has been fleshed out a lot and the actual game itself is now pretty much complete.  The challenge now is filling in all the peripheral stuff.  I need to write an instruction manual, create the settings and pause menu, generate sound effects and also implement the achievements.  I’ve written a to-do-list and it’s about 30 items long!  Just got to chip away!

Blog: May 2016

Welcome to my Blog!  This is entry number one.  There are so many people out there doing the same as me; trying to make games,  and I’ve decided I’m going to join them.  So here is my blog, a way of recording the journey I’m about to undertake.  I have a feeling I’ll go off on a few tangents but that’s what it’s all about.  I start here, having given myself a basic grasp of how to make a game. Now to see if I can actually make one...

Blog: February 2017

It’s been a busy month, mainly because I’ve had some holiday time off the day job!  This means I’ve managed to squeeze some more hours in.  So let’s review what I’ve been up to!  First off, my greatest / most satisfying achievement of the month came in completing of the graphics engine…

March has travelled past quickly!  The beginning of the month was spent converting Square Pegs Round Holes into a HTML5 game.  This was the first game that I made when I learnt to code.  It took a couple of weeks of spare time to get it across from a Windows/Mac game and this brings my HTML5 games up to three…

May is well under way, and so is my new gaming project! Football Club Empire is my biggest test yet and is going to take a lot longer to complete than my existing games.  Already it is coming along though and the first few ‘Work in Progress’ screenshots are making their way onto my Twitter feed…

Blog: June 2017

Time really does fly and it is now almost the end of June.  I have spent the last six weeks working on progressing Football Club Empire and I am very happy with how it is expanding.  I have updated the look, personalised 160 English League clubs, with each club having players, which in turn all have their own stats, oh, and you can now create your own club as well! It really has come quite a way!!…

A random month has passed.  I started the month working on Football Club Empire and making some decent progress. But after a few months working away on one project I started to feel a bit fatigued.  I therefore decided to take a few days off and play some actual games.  So I played Inside, Behold the Kickmen, and the new Doom…
